I think the reason that they aren’t portrayed in most war films is that they were not as large a group in the military until the vietnam era. The Tuskegee airmen, an all black air unit were not ever allowed to actually fly in a combat mission. I don’t have an answer for the sterotyped behavior but that maybe the reason they aren’t as largely portrayed in war films.

Why is it that minorities are rarely portrayed in most war films? When they are portrayed, they appear circa the Viet Nam era and are usually portrayed as verbal abusing, foul-mouth fornicators with no self discipline. Were Blacks invented during this time period? There seems to be amarket for this type of behavior. Look at the rap industry and the sit-coms. Why are the negative traits so boldly enhanced to the point it validates stereotyping?

During WWII the fighting units were segregated and I think most people know that. So unless the film was highlighting the “Buffalo Soldiers” or some other “colored” brigade you wouldn’t necessarily see a lot of minorities (Asians and others were also subject to these rules). Korea and Vietnam were different and I’m curious as to which films you’re talking about where blacks were portrayed as out of control. I can’t think of any. However, the actual reason you don’t see many minorities starring in mainstream films is that there are very few studio development execs (of any race) who believe they can “fill seats”. While there are a few like Denzel who can headline a film, you will generally see minority actors in “supporting” roles. Given that “Hollywood” is in L.A., a city that’s
