ShannonParticipantI’ve noticed that a lot of movies depict gay men talking in a certain way, I guess that can be described as flamboyant, maybe with a lisp. Where do they learn to talk like that? I’ve noticed this with gay guys that I know as well.

norbertneumanParticipantthat is just the way that gay people normally are portrayed as talking. they feel that that is the way they should talk, so they copy it. and as for how they learn it, just press your tounge to your teeth as you speak, this creates a lisp.

DotParticipantAssuming that most gay men are flamboyant and lispy is tantamount to assuming all women look like Pam Anderson. Movies these days tend to use extremely obvious character types because studios don’t believe Americans are smart enough to grasp subtlety. Trust me, I sit through these meetings. The vast majority of gay men are not overt and I would suspect you know plenty of gay men and might not even realize it.
