White females catch my attention more than other types of females. I’m against discrimination, but my preference in women makes me think I’m being racist. Is what I’m doing OK, or is it wrong?

You are not necessarily being racist just because you are more attracted to white women. If I am more attracted to brown eyed men, that doesn’t mean that I am prejudiced against blue eyed men, it simply means that I have a preference, nothing more, nothing less.

You’re not being racist, you just have an honest preference for white women. However, I wouldn’t overlook Hispanic women. There are many that are smart and very beautiful. You never know, sometimes we end up liking/being with the people we didn’t want to be with the most. Salomé

I know how you feel – for me, Asian women are much more attractive than white women, to the extent that I get different physical responses to them. It can’t be wrong to feel like that (or like anything else) – it’s the response we make to our feelings that matters.

I have had many conversations recently regarding this subject with my friends from South America and Puerto Rico. If you like white women because you just do(for lack of a better term), that is one thing. But if you think you think that you are socially upgrading, they are ‘better’ or that you will be the envy of all your buddies, that turns your liking into objectification. That is not good, because you will not see the woman as a multi-dimensional human being, but as an object that will get you attention. It could also be a social thing, because if you associate with whites on a frequent basis, you might think that you will feel more comfortable with a white woman, in terms of dating and intimacy. What do you think is different about white women than any other group? Do you think that you will be seen diferently in society if you have a white girlfriend?

I think it’s problematic to ask yourself whether it’s wrong or right to like someone from a different ethnic background. To a certain extent, I think we like what we like. That doesn’t mean there aren’t identifiable reasons, or at least speculation about the reasons. I mean, were you raised in an environment that was mostly white? Were you socialized as a white person, or was there definite emphasis on your Hispanic heritage? I know that in some cases, there’s more leeway in this for Hispanics than for most other non-white people, as some Hispanics are very fair-skinned, with European features, and can assimilate easily. Also, because you live in the United States, you, like everyone else, have likely been socialized by our collective culture to hold white women up as paragons of sexual attractiveness. Therefore, it’s not strange that you notice them. I just hope that, when you examine yourself honestly, your preference isn’t based on a lack of appreciation for your roots.

I am a Black woman, married to a White man. I have always had a preference for White men, and despite what many people have said about this(especially Black men), I do not have self-hatred issues, I love myself and my strong Black sisters AND brothers. I think that our ‘melting pot’ such as it is, has opened the door to allow us to have decided physical attraction to members of other races and ethnicities. For example, my mother (bless her heart) feels no attraction whatsoever towards White men and actually finds blue eyes ‘scary’. Oh, what a difference a generation makes.
