Ron25743ParticipantMy wife wants us to go on vacation in Mexico. She contacted this travel agency about it and they lined up this big month-long Mexican vacation deal which is going to cost an arm and a leg. I have been thinking that maybe we could just sneak across the border, go anywhere we wanted and stay as long as we wanted. It would save us thousands of dollars. My question is this: If the Mexican border patrol caught us, would we be in a lot of trouble? We need advice from somebody who has been to Mexico. Thank you.

Miguel VParticipantRon Are you aware that there is no charge for crossing the border? You can take a Greyhound from Stockton, cross the border, and then proceed to go anywhere you want and stay as long as you want. You don’t need to break the law in order to do that. Or is there some other hidden motive foy you wanting to sneak across the border?

DotParticipantDo you read the news? There’s a major drug war going on in Mexico and my relatives there have warned us not to come visit. Unless you’re in a resort hotel with security you’re likely to be a kidnapping target. Americans are perceived as wealthy and willing to pay large ransoms. Either be safe and spend the money to do it right or stay home (or find somewhere else to go on vacation).
