If God played poker, who would win in a game between God or the Devil? Why?

Since 5 card stud is a game of chance, it might be up in the air… as I’m sure God would play fair. However, in the skill aspect God would far excel the devil and it would probably give Him a significant edge. Another question: Why would they play poker?

I’m not sure I understand your question. Do you mean: does God have control over vices? I am an agnostic as well, so I won’t try to answer the question.

It would be close – the devil has all the luck, but God is bluff !

God would win, because he, she, it, is God, omnicient and omnipotent.

What I meant to ask was whether you thought that God, by playing honestly and given his ‘character,’ would win against the Devil, who would attempt to win by any means at his disposal. Essentially, I am pitting two opponents of diametrically opposite moral alignments in a game of poker, and then asking you to determine who would win, Good or Evil. God’s supposed omnipotence is not to be a factor.

First, John 4:24 states that, ‘God is a Spirit…’. The Bible also refers to God as ‘holy,’ so please don’t reduce Him to man’s standards. Second, God is also omnipotent (all powerful) and has control over every aspect of the universe, including the devil. This means that the devil can do only what God permits him to do. In the book of Job, God allowed the devil to disrupt Job’s life. In the end, it was meant to show the devil that Job feared and loved God above all else: his family, his possessions, his friends, and even his life.

the question is theological nonsense and not worth answering BUT when two people enter a game they are assumed to be equal. May the best mythical critter win.

I am as curious as you are about God. In fact, a very wise man once told me that ‘feedback and curiosity says more about the sender’ . Therefore, your question seems to convey that, rather than a sincere interest in the outcome of an imaginary poker game, perhaps YOU are at a spiritual crossroad in your life. If so, hang in there with that because spiritual awareness can lead to peace of mind, body, and soul. However, regarding your intriguing question, my personal belief is that God would win because, contrary to popular belief, God and the devil are not equal. Lucifer was/is a fallen angel who was actually created BY God. Therefore, God is and always has been in complete control–games included. P.S. I am sensitive to the fact that not everyone believes in God, etc… The specifics of my sentiments are certainly not intended to oppress non-believers.

Difficult. God, being all-present, would be able to sneak a look over the Devil’s shoulder. On the other hand, being a Good God, he’d feel duty-bound not to cheat. The Devil would probably have bet on the outcome of the game, and that would influence his urge to win or throw it. God would know which way the Devil had bet. His actions might be dictated by how much he cared about the Devil’s side bet. Being omnipotent, he may not care too much. If I were the Devil, I’d know that whatever I did, I’d be in a bit of a bind, God being all-knowing and all. But I know that I can annoy God, even if I can’t win. I’d dare God to raise the stakes by letting me have my wicked way with the Virgin Mary for a night if I won, on top of the pile of cash on the table. I doubt God could see his way to raise the stakes by that much, and I’d walk away from the table able to boast that God had wimped out.

God made everything, from the cards theoretically being played with, the table they would theoretically be playing on, even the devil himself is a creation of God. Shouldn’t he be able to control the cards to go his way if he wanted to? God is also supposedly all knowing, if the devil tried to cheat, he/she would know giving him a definite advantage.
