Matthew21848ParticipantI don’t quite know what you mean by ‘over-enunciate,’ but it might be based in education. People who are educated usually don’t use colloquialisms. But as you are from Cincinnati, I would caution you on making assumptions about all gay guys. I bet you don’t even know all of the gay men with whom you speak on a daily basis. By this I mean, Cincinnati doesn’t have the reputation as being a liberal city and hence many gay guys might prefer to keep their sexual orientation confined to their circle of friends and family.

James D.MemberYou forgot the word “some,” as in “some gay guys over-enunciate when they speak.” There are all kinds of gay guys, and many of them act perfectly straight. You might even know a couple and not even know they’re gay. As to the ones who do over-enunciate, it’s an affectation that they’ve adopted because it suits them, the same way you might affect a certain look (say, sexy, or demure) or a certain style (say, boisterous, or shy). Perhaps it differentiates them from straight people, or binds them together with other gay people. Interestingly, some English people tend to speak that way, too, which makes Americans think they’re gay when they’re actually just being themselves.

HagaiParticipantIn the nature, and in Disney movies, males always try to impress their potential partner by BEING DIFFERENT and by RISKING THEMSELF. Actually, gay men want other people to know about their sexual orientation, and they want heterosexuals to laugh at them, to impress other people! It is a version of pure male behavior!

Justin30954ParticipantI think that has nothing to do with sexuality… I am very animated and speak well (lol unless I need to get somethin out quickly…), and because of it, I get called a ‘fag.’ So I do some theatre. It has no influence on sexual preference. It just depends oon how you practice speaking.
