RachelParticipantAs an American transplant to Canada…I get it. Of all the Americans I know, there are very few who take the time to really learn & remember much geography. America is so big, and has so much to offer that Americans really don’t have to leave their homeland to get a fair amount of variety. One thing I’ve noticed since I moved here is the maps printed in the states that show all of North America show America as much larger than Canada. Seriously — it looks smaller on maps I have in my home. I was surprised to realize the sheer mass of the provinces. All the media in America (unless you watch the BBC and other imports) is American-centric. All America, all the time. Little connection to the rest of the world, and even the world news (after the local) spends about 1/2 its time talking about American stuff. We’re taught to be egotistical. We’re taught to be narrow sighted with regard to the rest of the world and our place in it. Helps us to vote for ppl like our current president.

Britt28722ParticipantAmericans do not think maetians or atlantians made the pyramids. If you asked any american, even if they have not yet completed school, who built the pyramids, 98% will say Egyptians. But even that isnt right. It was Jewish slaves who actually built it. Egyptians planned it. And we dont think people still ride to work on camels either. Only little children.
