To Christian fundamentalists in the United States: When crusading against homosexuality and gay rights, fundamentalists’ main argument seems to be that we shouldn’t have protection against discrimination because being gay is against the Bible. Leaving aside arguments from gay Christians who say the Bible is not against homosexuality, if we have no state religion in the United States, why should the Bible dictate our secular laws? Being Buddhist, for example, is also against the Bible, and yet I don’t hear any widespread suggestions that Buddhism should be illegal or to forbid Buddhist weddings.

Setting aside the argument of how Christians generally view homosexuality, I’m going to give you my perspective, as a Christian: Whether one believes being gay is against the Bible or not does not give one license to discriminate. Somehow people have managed to turn Christianity into a beast. Believe me, I am a fundamentalist, but my eyes and heart are not closed to others. Jesus still loves – and would not discriminate against – homosexuals. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying Jesus would support or advocate being gay, just that he would love the person. I disagree with the act of homosexuality, but I don’t hate gay people. As Christians, it is our mission to let people know our beliefs and why we believe them, but we can’t start playing God. If Christians believe homosexuality is a sin, then we should remember all sins are equal in the sight of God. If you are a true Christian and really want to do God’s will and bring people to the Lord with the plan of salvation, what needs to be done is to speak the truth in love. Meaning, tell people what you believe and why, but in a kind way. It’s their choice to believe or not, even with the issue of being gay. That’s why God gave us all free will.

I hope and pray that people realize the relationship God intended for men and women was only for men and women, not men and men or women and women. I won’t discriminate against gay people as people, but I will not support laws or fundraisers to support gay marriages and such because that would go against everything I believe in. I’m sorry. So, no, homosexuals shouldn’t be discriminated against any more than any other group for getting jobs, etc., but that doesn’t mean I support it at all.

You said, ‘I hope and pray that people realize the relationship God intended for men and women was only for men and women, not men and men or women and women. So, no, homosexuals shouldn’t be discriminated against any more than any other group for getting jobs, etc., but that doesn’t mean I support it at all.’ First of all, how do you know what God is thinking? How do you know what kind of relationship God intends people to have? Do you think that you have ‘arrived’ to know the mind of God? Do you think that God’s WHOLE mind has been wrapped up in one Book? The Bible? I used to be fundamentalist. I shutter to view myself as a Christian, because you’re right. It IS a shame that some people have turned Christianity into a beast. They have taken their understanding of the world and imposed it on being ‘God’s will’, therefore dictating it to the rest of humanity. Is your understanding of ‘God’s will’ really God’s will? Or is it the will of Christianity? Do you seperate the two? Maybe not since Christians believe that they are ‘Christ-like’. I am still a believer and a follower of Jesus Christ. I don’t believe that God has a sexual preference, nor do I believe that who a person has sex with is going to make one ‘lick’ of difference when it comes to ‘saving’ the world. You said that you can’t support different sexual orientations. Well then my sister, how can you love your neighbor as yourself? You must not support yourself then. So let’s see, you can’t support it. That must mean that you have discerned against it, right? Meaning that you can discriminate between what you do support and what you don’t support. If you’re not supporting it, then you are discriminating against it. Choose your words more carefully. You tollerate us and you have to live in this world with us, and you believe that we don’t really love God, or are in Her/His will because we don’t fit in your mindset of how Her/His children should be. My dear, you are nailing our hands and crucifing us every time you tell us that you will not support us. You may call it holding us accountable to your views. But I don’t see how your views are supporting justice. In fact, I see them as discriminating against justice.

I feel people who marry the same sex should not adopt children because it will cause confusion to the child. The Bible states there should be no same-sex marriages. I don’t agree with their way of living.
