Do most women find men in the military attractive, especially when in their fatigues? If so, what might it have to do with?

Some women like a man in uniform. Some (mainly found near military bases) seem to see only the steady job with benefits. After 17 years in the Air Force, I have seen both types, and I’ve seen GIs get married to both types. Those who are truly turned on by a uniform really appreciate you; those who only want a husband with benefits seem to lose the ‘passion’ fairly quickly after snagging one.

Yes, this ‘old’ (age 50) woman finds military men very attractive, whether in fatigues or dress uniform. For me, it is not so much physical features as it is an overall bearing of dignity. Also, I can’t separate character from physical attractiveness when I look at someone, and military personnel simply strike me as mature, dignified, brave and honorable. I’m sure someone will come back with a story about some bad apple in the military, but overall, I think they represent the best of humans. That’s why they are attractive to me.

I do, but then again, my boyfriend is in the military. Anyway, I think military men look nice in uniform because it might go back to the primitive, ‘cavewoman-like’ thought that they are strong, in control and would be good ‘protectors.’ I can’t speak for how other women feel, though.

I can’t speak for ‘most women’ but I can certainly speak for myself and tell you YES! I think this is because, to me, a man in uniform is the epitome of a ‘man.’ In particular, I’m a sucker for Marines because they seem to be the ‘hardest,’ and toughest of all the branches of service!

I was in the Air Force ROTC for two years, and I have mixed feelings on the subject. I do find men in their blues or service dress to be attractive (probably because the uniform looks so neat and crisp), but the combat uniform doesn’t have the same effect. I think it has more to do with the camaraderie that we felt. In the BDUs, we were all running and sweating together, and they were more like brothers than guys I would be checking out. I would love to hear what people who don’t have any experience in a military atmosphere have to say on the subject.

I don’t find men in the military attractive because all I can see is some dumb hick calling everybody ma’am or sir (even though I know some smart guys who are in the military). I also see someone just falling in line and taking orders – someone who would never consider questioning authority (which I find extremely sexy). I think the fatigues look stupid on just about anybody.

I don’t think men in the military are any more or less attractive than men outside the military. Generally I like my men with some hair, so those military buzz cuts are sometimes a bit of a turnoff.

Guys in military garb have my appreciation and respect but knowing how little they earn and how poor their longterm career prospects are, I don’t know any woman in my socio-economic circle who would find a sailor, soldier or Marine a good bet for a husband.

I have to say military men are very attractive. Perhaps it has to do with the old concept of chilvary/bravery. They seem to be extremely dignified, stong, and handsome when in uniform and women do like the whole knight in shining armor persona, even if some do not want to admit it! The charisma we find in military men may have been subliminally ingrained in us long ago when primitive women found the strongest, bravest men in the tribe suitable husband material. Men in fatique resemble and become national heroes, something we are natually attracted to. It may sound primitive, or even anti-feminist, but we do love the uniform and what you stand for!

Well, I can’t speak for everyone, but I used to love watching all those war movies, with the guys in their fatigues and white undershirts. I think it generally is the idea that guys in the military are in peak physical condition, having gone through intense training. There’s also the whole idea of ‘heroism’ and the very matcho idea of a guy whose out there ‘saving the world’ dealing with very concrete, immediate problems. Of course, I could be putting my foot in my mouth in regards to feminism.

That’s an interesting question. I only now realized that I DON’T like military men or most men that would dare to wear a uniform. The uniform leads me to think that the person has a lack of individuality and that the need to belong too badly, even if the person isn’t this way. You know, followers, not leaders!

I would suggest that there is often a physical attraction, not least because members of the armed services are required to be fit – also a high proportion are young – so you have lots of fit, healthy young men. Our biology drives us to look for someone likely to have good genes, so looking fit and healthy is a good sign. Having said that, I personally am not attracted to men in the forces as such, as I have reservations about people who choose such a potentially violent career.

Absolutely not. What could be more unattractive than killing people for a living?

I find them sexy. Especially when they are in their dress uniforms.
