Aamber-TParticipantHave you ever been misjudged because of your race? What are some examples of this in your life?

SoniaParticipantI’ve been ‘misjudged’ many times. I am a Filipino American born in the USA. Many Asian Americans are viewed as the ‘model minority’, rarely speaking up and not questioning. I grew up in a very diverse community (San Francisco) but temporarily moved to Las Vegas (college) where there were few Asian minorities at the time (1986-1990). Misjudged by answers like, ‘you speak very good English,’ ‘you have a very exotic look, are you from Hawaii (where people think the only islands exist are in Hawaii). How about, ‘Do you speak Cantonese or Japonese?’ Yes, I realized at that time I was misjudged as uneducated and a minority. I found that educating the individual that misjudges yourself, develops karma as well as helping a possibly naive or ignorant person to a better understanding. Help educate and promote diversity.
