I have heard Italians and Italian Americans call African Americans ‘Eggplants.’ Can someone tell me what this term means, and its origin?

That is a reference to color of skin, as in an eggplant has a black peel. I believe the Italian slang for “black person” is “moulie,” which comes from the word for eggplant.
