LynnaeParticipantMy workplace is predominantly male (often I am the only female on duty). It seems perfectly acceptable for a guy to have a major outburst or a nasty verbal fight, but if a woman behaves in this manner, she is considered to be emotionally distraught and out of control. I have learned that I cannot express even the tiniest amount of irritation without the men looking at each other as if to say ‘Uh oh, what’s her problem?’ I have even been reprimanded (by a male superior) for behavior that would be shrugged off if committed by a man. Guys, can you tell me why this disparity exists? I strive to achieve harmony at work but wonder why it’s expected from women and not from men.

DannyHParticipantBecause when two guys fight/argue, they usually blow up at each other and then go have a beer. Women tend to drag it out forever. For men it’s blowing off steam, but usually for women it’s the beginning of a long bitch session. It ain’t fair, but that’s pretty much it. I would say that if you could blow up at someone and then take them out for a beer or whatever is your local equivalent later, you might get a little more slack. Life’s a banquet and most poor bastards are starving to death!
