Hi, I am a television producer and we’re producing a documentary on Latinas for a prominent cable network. It’s for a television series on multiculturalism that explores the conflicts, struggles and confusion that children of immigrants encounter living in the US. Now we’re researching a documentary show on young Latinas caught between two cultures — struggling to balance their cultural traditions (what their parents want/expect) and their personal beliefs. We want to hear about your experience caught between these two worlds and what it’s like growing up Latina in the U.S. · Are you struggling with an issue right now (ie. school, sex, body image etc.) that your parents don’t understand because of their cultural beliefs?; · Do you disagree with your parents over your future because you want something different than what they expect from you (because of their culture and how they were raised)?; · Are you a teen or young adult who is struggling with issues of sex, pregnancy and abortion?; · Do you want to leave home for college and fear your parents won’t approve of you moving away?; · Are you limiting your own career expectations because of cultural expectations of what a woman should be? · Are you conflicted because you were adopted by a non-Latino family who misunderstands your desire to connect with your culture? · Are you or a sibling able to identify with Anglos faster than with Latinos and is it causing a conflict within your family? · Are you interested in returning to your parents’ country to live against their wishes? Are you of Cuban descent and wish to travel to Cuba to live? If you are between the ages of 16 and 22, have emigrant parents, and want to share your experiences on television, we want to hear from you. Tell us how your own issues conflict with your family/culture’s tradition and how you are handling (or not handling) it. Please be advised that this is a candid, honest show that will treat your situation with sensitivity and sincere consideration. Our goal is to produce a quality story to share with young viewers. Please email us ASAP at docs@whatcha-lookin-at.com to share your story
