Augustine23390ParticipantMaybe it’s my imagination, but why do I get the feeling that people in rural areas, who farm for a living, look upon their urban counterparts in a condescending, almost hostile manner? Many times I have gotten this facial expression, or sometimes just a ‘vibe’, that the person is kind of disgusted with me, maybe because he thinks I don’t understand or respect his way of making a living. Understand, no, not really, because it’s a profession of which I don’t have inside knowledge, don’t know the terminology, don’t know what headaches it entails. Same with engineering or nuclear physics. I don’t know about those occupations either. But respect? Absolutely! These people put food on all our tables and it’s an eminently honorable profession that takes a great deal of intelligence and perseverance. Are farmers defensive because they think we are all ingrates who perceive them as dumb hicks?
