Can someone tell me if others base their opinions or impressions of other based on whether or not the person looks pretty or good looking?

America has a cult of youth and beauty. Personality seems almost like an afterthought. If you compare popular singers and actors today to those of 50 years ago, you’ll see that there were more terrific performers long ago who weren’t gorgeous or more handsome than average, but they had talent! Today’s stars seem to put more emphasis on looks than talent, not to say that there are some good looking and talented people. Studies have shown that good looking people get preferential treatment, more job offers, etc. It’s unfair but true. That’s why there’s so much cosmetic surgery. Just Curious

In general more attractive people tend to be more successful, however, I have noticed as I’ve gotten older that I am taken more seriously in my profession. It might affect women more than men but looking back I think being too cute probably made things more difficult for me at times. Socially speaking it’s somewhat the same in that when a man likes the way a woman looks he will rarely delve much deeper into her psyche to find out if he likes her personality. Men also expect that a pretty woman is a more passive, sexually available and less challenging partner. There are many advantages to outgrowing that hot phase.
