I am currently in college trying to do what I have been trained to do, get a degree so that I can get a decent job. However I have worked full time for the same place ( in the veterinary profession) for 4 years now. I don’t have a degree in this field and therefore make much less than other people with far less experience who just happen to have a piece of paper ( degree ) stating that they know how to do the same thing ( and actually very often) less than I do. Who trains the people with the degrees once they are hired? In my profession it tends to be the people with the experience, not the degrees who train them. How did it come to be that experience means nothing, but a degree is gold?
