Susan-TParticipantDO: buy the Lonely Planet Guide (LPG)to Cuba. READ it completely & take it with you! DO: take USA cash in small bills–the USA dollar is the currency in La Habana. USA credit cards & traveler’s check are NOT accepted anywhere. DO: learn some Spanish, basic phrases & questions. DO: take extra things to give/donate to the people–shaving razors, toilet paper, medicines, first aid supples, soap, playing cards, candy, gum, flashlights, rechargeable AA batteries, etc. DO: take your own toilet paper, it just does not exist in public, even in many homes. DO: expect warm, curious, friendly people. DONT: expect fast service or easy transportation. Gas shortages are REAL! DONT: expect other people to speak English. DONT: spend all of your time in Habana, get away from the city & experience the real Cuban culture. DONT: Be late at the airport–be there 2 hours or more before the flight. Reconfirm your outbound flight SEVERAL times. DONT: miss out on the opportunity to go to Cuba! You won’t be the only American tourist there….
