I was wondering why a county jail would want to cross-train the jailers they have with people working at juvenile detention centers. They are two different work environments. The only thing I can think of is that the county wants to save money. Please give me a different answer.

To me the obvious answer is for continuity and to do a better job. Few ‘criminals’ begin their careers as adults. Being familiar with both systems of incarceration and all age ranges can be of benefit as an additional protective measure for the jailor. I was never a ‘jailor’ but I housed 3 adult parolees (in their 30’s)and 22 juvenile offenders (12 to 18 years old -Petty theft to a 13 year old murder). You can’t get too much training and education when it comes to avoiding being outsmarted.
