I have noticed that some African Americans are offended when ‘gays’ and ‘blacks’ are compared in the debate on civil rights. (For example ‘The anti-miscegenation laws that were ended by Loving v. Virginia are similar to laws banning gay marriage.’ or ‘Hate-crime laws that include both black and gay victim protection.’) Why might this be offensive to some African Americans?
