Ashlinn-TParticipantAs a Boy Scout leader in a large community, and as a person raised Baptist, I find it confusing that the Jewish members of the troop do not celebrate the birth of Christ. In order to understand these children’s backgrounds, I would like to know why they do not celebrate this.

C.S.ParticipantJews don’t celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ because they don’t believe he was the Messiah (the one to come and save them from sin). They don’t believe the Messiah has come for them yet.

J-Miller21302ParticipantThe reason Jews and many Christians do not celebrate Christmas is that it’s not the birth date of Christ. Most major churches acknowledge that Jesus was most likely born in the early fall of our calendar year, and that the day of Dec. 25 was taken as a pagan sun worship practice. Old habits just die hard, I guess.

Jonathan W.ParticipantI investigated the claims of Christ, and I believe they are valid and that he is the son of God – the only way to eternal life. Before you stop reading, may I just offer a quote from C. S. Lewis, a one-time atheist, turned Christian?
“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying about Him: ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.’ That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic – on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg – or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse.”
