SR28423ParticipantA few weeks ago I went with a group of friends (all of us white) to what was supposed to be a very good Chinese restaurant. Twenty minutes after seating ourselves at the largest table in the middle of the restaurant a waiter had still not come by. The waiters did not look particularly busy; one polished glasses while another watched the large-screen television. Two of us politely reminded two different waiters and the woman at the cash register that we needed service. After sitting for ten more minutes with not so much as water or a greeting, we left. We’d been the only white people in there and, as far as we could tell, the only group being ignored. It was obvious that we were not welcome, but does anyone have a deeper explanation of what went on?
