I am a black American, but I have to say I am tired of blacks blaming the system in which we live today for problems that do not even reach the levels they say they do. To other black Americans: Why is this done? I know racism exists, but when the time comes for me to rightfully claim I am being discriminated against (God forbid), I’d like to be heard.

I, too, am sick and tired of black people who refuse to accept their own destination and call it racism, when they are the cause of their own downfall. It’s tragic.

I agree with you, but it is not only the black people that say the sysytem is doing them wrong, it is also the latinos. I am a hispanic female and I get tired of hearing some of the latinos complain about today’s system and white people. I don’t think the system or the white people owe me anything but my freedom. Everything that my family and I have right now is because we worked hard for it. Instead of complaining about the system do something about it!!! Go to school, go to college, and then get involved with the system and help change the system, so that other people can benefit from it.

I too am growing rather tired of black people constantly whining about how the system is stacked against us beacause much of our inability to succeed is due in large part to our failures and shortcomings and rather than look inward as to why some blacks fail we continue to look outward for it is counterproductive and this is a 36 yr old black man who is saying this and it pains me to no end.

The stronghold of ‘the system’ is more real for some people than others. They may complain of the system often because no matter where they go or what they do, it is in their face. Low-paying jobs that do not allow advancement, constant police profiling, the politicians they have to choose from, white skin privilege. Many black people who do not complain about the system are only content because they take part in it (assimilate) or have figured out a way to ‘screw’ it, so to speak. The ones who complain are usually the ones who would have to start out from scratch (no inherited jump-start like many of us today have). It’s getting harder and harder to start from scratch. But on the other hand, it can be used as an excuse.

Considering your age, I wouldn’t think that you attained that ‘middle class’ status on your own. I don’t think I’ve experienced the effects of racism, but I do know from history and what is out there that people of a ‘lower class’ have more things to contend with in terms of success. When that person is black, or another person of color for that matter, it’s twice as difficult. My point is that you are not in a position to say that people are crying wolf when you can’t even relate to them in the same way. I think that most people who cry wolf are the ones stuck at the bottom because they’re usually the ones stepped on from and on all levels.

I must respond by saying I am sick of black people who sit comfy-cozy in their place, snubbing black people with complaints of oppression. Does a black person have to walk up to you with 50 gunshots in his chest before you will recognize it as REAL oppression? Why do these people make you ‘sick’? Are you embarrassed by them? Wish they could all ‘work as hard’ as you? News flash: many of ‘them’ work twice as hard as those of us who are sitting pretty economically. Unlike people who are ‘sick’ of our brothers and sisters who can’t get from under the heels of oppression, I (as a person who managed to screw the system somewhat) see it as my duty to give back. And I do not judge my community based on some Eurocentric BS value system taught to us by American society.
