Why is it such a big deal among African American girls and teenagers to have dry or ‘ashy’ skin? I remember myself being teased so badly about my supposed ‘ashiness’ (I had worn some knee-high socks that exposed a small portion of my knees) that I ran to the bathroom crying! I realize now that they just wanted to pick on me because I was a vunerable target, but I still don’t understand why there’s such a stigma if you have dry skin. Other races don’t care about this, so why do blacks?
