I work with a woman, white, in her early 20’s who has the habit of talking differently when she is around Black people. She speaks standard English to Whites but to Blacks she ,for instance, will say’I be going’ or’know what I’m saying’with a very exaggerated accent and gangsta type hand and arm motions.I know she prefers the company of Blacks so I would suppose that she considers this to be a compliment to them ,but I sometimes wonder if the people she is doing this for consider this a compliment or an insult.
