Suzy27511ParticipantBecause they have no clue as to what God looks like, I believe that generally Africian Americans consider God to be white.

DemetrisParticipantI view God as a spirit, neither black nor white; however, it does pose an interesting question. Man was made in God’s image, and through the Bible we know that the Garden of Eden was smack in the middle of Africa. So does this make God black? Maybe, maybe not. Does it matter? Should it matter? Nope. I think we shouldn’t lie about what we know, but we shouldn’t sweat what we don’t.

T. JonesParticipantWhen I pray to God, I am not picturing a black of white God. No eye has seen Him, so I can’t really say I can picture what He looks like. He is God. What does it matter what He looks like? It says in the Bible that we are all created in His image. Who is to really say that they know what that image is? Or even that their view of Him is right?

ShermanParticipantI don’t perceive God as a human at all, more like a force of nature. I don’t think of God as having any physical features, but if He appeared in a vision or something, it would probably be in a form that the person having the vision would be most comfortable with.

Trey24881ParticipantI don’t perceive God as a physical being. Therefore God has no race. God is a spiritual being and cannot be contained to any particular race.

JenniferParticipantDoes it really matter what color we are or what color we worship. Sodam & Gamorra was how we all became different. Therefore God is no race or color, but spirit. I think it is sad that everyone looks at color when it shouldn’t be an issue. People are not listening to the word and no one is loving each other. Religion is about getting to one place where no one is seen as a color. Why is EVERYTHING always about race? If you were born in america you are AMERICAN. DEAL WITH IT! the past is the past, you don’t live there, so don’t dwell in it!

melissaParticipantUm, I perceive God as any other christian would, the ultimate being and creator of us all. I mean visually I dont know what he looks like, no living man has seen the face of God, while the media, culture and church artists probly give you the face of an old white guy with gray hair, I dont think we are capable of even comprehending a visual of God himself. For that matter the original hebrew books of the bible never referred to God as a HE, so who is to say that God is neither maan nor woman, but something far greater. As far as what most blacks beleive, because i think that is closer to your question I, was raised in christian churches of baptist, methodist, episcopal, and african methodist epicopal(lol) denominiations. Because miami is a more mixed area than where im originally from I now go to a non denominational christian church w/ people of many other races. Black christians, like all christians, beleive man was created in gods image(if we all are so different, how could he just be white or black), that christ is the son of God sent to earth to die for our sins and give us salvation if we beleive in him. While I had heard people say christ was black, due to physical description in the bible, that his skin was the color of bronze and his hair like lambswool, I beleive that him being a hebrew male living in the middle east, he would look much more like any isreali you see on tv than the european blonde blue eyed portrait in so many churches, books, homes, etc. The answer to your question on how blacks perceive God is that we perceive God as similarily to whites as Asian, hispanic, Arabic people would depending on the individuals religion. How do you perceive God, I think it is a matter of how someone was raised and what exposure they had that shapes their views and perception. I would need much more space to go into side areas like catholic saint-based voodoo, hispanic santeria, snake chuches or other ‘occult’ beliefs that are comparable to ‘white’ religons like scientology, wicca, etc. If you have any other questions you could email me.

MR SmithParticipantIm mixed black and white. I dont believe God has a specific race since the world has so many different races of people. God molded man in his image and we are all God’s people. Since God molded man in his image i believe that, if God were a specific race, EVERYONE in the world would be that one race. I also believe that Race does not exist in Heaven.

tentativeParticipantWhen you are truly praying form your heart your mind set isn’t quite on envisioning God, but when thinking about him its just like every other race in the world to think of the last portraying we may have seen or one that we thought was particularly good and is set in our minds. More times than anything, it is of a so-called ‘white’ Jesus. Although , any person of the Mediterranean area is neither black or white, so I have no idea how the grouping of every Bible character depicted turns out to the majority of being white. We pray from our spirits, our hearts, those, hopefully, can show no prejudice
