Why do white men and women find small, non-existent backsides attractive? Every African-Caribbean person I know (and this is without exception) believes a woman with a round, full bottom is attractive and sexy. I am not saying that every African-Caribbean woman has this body shape, but the majority do, and if she does not, it is something on her ‘wish list.’

Most people are attracted to what they commonly see in their community. Whites tend to hang around other whites, who are built with flatter butts, and so find this attractive. As you mentioned, Africans (and African Americans) like bigger, fuller butts, since this is the normal body shape in our community.

It’s not a white thing, because I’m white and I like ’em curvy. It’s because of the society you’re brought up in. I’m white-Hispanic, but I grew up as as a pure-blooded white American in Kansas City (school, neighborhood, camps, friends, etc.). The girls we ‘white boys’ liked had ‘tight’ butts and nice, big tah-tahs. In my early twenties, I moved to my family’s homeland (Venezuela), and I first found the girls down here to be a bit fat. Later, in time, that appreciation turned to round and curvy. Well, now those chicks I used to adore as a white American seem to me like anorexic, flat and buttless cuties. My taste changed because of the influence from my surroundings. Now I like them with nice round butts (not huge, though), like most Hispanics. Although the lower you go in the social scale, the bigger they like ’em. Same thing happens with white Americans and hooters. So it’s not that small, non-existent backsides are attractive to white Americans (or Englishmen), it’s that they don’t pay much attention to them because their eyes are glued to the jugs up front.

The kind of African-Caribbean bottom you’re talking about is generally a lot perter than the average white big bum, which, sadly, can be on the flat side. White men certainly don’t prefer non-existent bums – I don’t know where you got that idea. My bum is not skinny, and I’ve certainly had no complaints. However, I’ve got the impression that, in terms of body shape at least, African-Caribbean men tend to prefer a more natural, womanly shape – good for them. A lot of white men unfortunately make themselves feel better (about their small bums?) by putting down women who are not rakes.

I live in a white (Jewish) neighborhood. At work I’m the only black man in my department, and I went to all-white schools until college. I’ll tell you what the average suburban white American male likes: Fake boobs on a stick. It’s unfathomable to me that they aren’t attracted to women who exhibit more of the sexual dimorphism that makes men men and women women. To tell you the truth, I’ve thought for years that it was somewhat homo-erotic that white men seem to like women with the bodies of prepubescent boys, i.e. no hips, butt, all body hair shaved off, etc. White men in other countries seem to be more appreciative of more womenly women.

In the United States, small behinds equal wealth because our lifestyles are conducive to poor health (cars everywhere, cheap and fattening food). It costs money to buy health food and a gym membership. Also, fashion models and actresses are held up as the standard of beauty. Perhaps as technology advances, we expect our bodies (behinds included) to become as sleek as our gadgets. Also, have you ever seen a woman described as having an hourglass figure? The average European woman’s behind is flatter than the average African’s behind, but many European women have small waists and wide hips for childbearing.

White people don’t necessarily have flat/small butts. I live in New York and see many white girls with big butts and many black girls with flat butts – it depends more on the overall build. My friend (who is black) is very petite and has no butt, but I am ‘thicker’ and have a huge butt. I have to agree with the comment that social class is somewhat a determining factor of butt size and preference – in a predominantly white school, the richer kids were usually thinner (with smaller builds), and the poorer kids (such as my family) were usually thicker (with larger builds). Fashion also determines what is considered attractive – look at Marilyn Monroe, Briget Ekberg and all the Hollywood icons; they are all size 9 plus with big butts, and are very voluptuous. I just think it’s f***ed up to be angry at a group that admires features you may not possess.
