CrystalMemberAll of the atheists I have known or heard about are white people from comfortable backgrounds. Also, most seem to be men. Do atheists from African-American, Latino or Asian backgrounds exist outside of countries where religion is proscribed (such as communist China)? If so, do you feel isolated in either your community or the community of atheists?

Michael20698ParticipantWonderful sf author, and atheist, and black. (Come on. We’re Americans. We’re lazy. Why say the seven-syllable ‘African-American’ when the one-syllable ‘black’ can do?)

RalphMemberBlack and Latino Atheists are rare, I believe, because of the close knit communities they often live in. In the community, the dominant religion is strongly followed and potential atheists are dissuaded from turning away from the church by peer pressure. As for Asian Atheists, some forms of Buddhism are atheist in basis.
