Why does it seem that on average blacks have credit problems?

I really have to respond to this one. I am a black female and married. All blacks do not have credit problems. Where did you get this misinformation? My credit is above excellent. If I had to match mine with yours, I bet mine is better. As a black family, my husband and I have excellent credit. It depends on the person, not the race of the person. My husband and I travel at least three times a year on our timeshares that we own free and clear. God has chosen to bless up with good jobs, and I am truly grateful. Don’t knock people with credit problems because whites as well as blacks have bad credit. Life brings misfortunes. If you live long enough, you may experience it yourself. When our daughter was in college, she received credit cards and didn’t have a job. Why? I guess they figured she was white and her parents would pay. I think you value your credit rating as you mature. I know a white friend/co-worker with horrible credit who was able to get a mortgage to buy her townhouse. Do you think that a minority with the same credit history would have been approved? No. Unless you have walked in the shoes of others, don’t be so quick to label them. Misfortunes have happened to many people. You have your job today, but tomorrow is not promised to you. Some people -blacks and whites – just don’t pay their bills and don’t care. Many families, white and black, struggle to make payments from one month to the other. By the way, are you supporting a family? I bet you aren’t. Many families pay a grocery bill of $125 and more a week. And that’s just for food. I worked hard to get my credit where it is and I could not let your comment go by without responding.

Not meaning to be a cold shower on a hot day, but Black people with good credit is not the norm. We live in a society which set Black people up for failure in more ways than some can fathom: 1) low wages 2) higher rents and utilities 3) higher insurance 4) projects 5) welfare, etc, etc, etc Now, true enough, there are Blacks out there who manage to escape all of that, but most don’t. Black people try too hard to do everything their white counterparts (who are more than likely being paid a WHOLE lot more money) do to put up those ‘appearances’ and it costs them, because they are not on equal footing financially, and this causes the problems. Most Black people are UAWs still trying to experience the finer things in life that were denied to them for so very long and feel like nobody’s taking anything with them when they die anyway. The bottom line: MOST of us don’t have much money to manage. Don’t believe the hype about credit. Having good credit only means you have some white person’s permission to assist them into becoming future millionaires and retiring early, at 20-25 percent interest on your future income. Good credit, bad credit or no credit at all, take it from me: PAY CASH. You own it, no credit sharks are living the good life off your interest payments and nobody can take it away if you suddenly find YOURSELF on hard times. Get out the scissors and do what’s best with those credit cards, destroy them before they destroy you. And that’s for people of ANY race.

The reason that ON AVERAGE, blacks seem to have bad credit is beause you’re basing your AVERAGE black person on the lower end of ecomonically able people(rather than the middle). Let’s say you sample 100 American’s income and find the avg. is $10,700. That means the avg. American income is $10,700, right? All of the 100 people have incomes under $14,000(roughly min. wage). Do you see what’s wrong with this? If you do, then you know the answer to your question. BTW, a lot of college kids get bad credit b/c credit card companies bombard them w/offers figuring most are too immature to spend responsibly and will charge big bills that take them forever to pay off. Every student I know gets no less than 2 or 3 credit offers daily in the mail.
