I would just like the ask anyone who can relate to this subject the question of Why are all people who are from the Middle East considered Arab Americans? I worked at a surveyor this summer where I would call people and ask them the a specified survey. I had a particular survey that pertained to issues concerning Arab Americans and their feelings of security after the tragedy of September 11th. Many of them when I asked to speak to an Arab American in the household were extremely revolted that we called them that. Others explained to me that they did not want to be called that because they are not Arab Americans. One of my good friends is Lebanese and he also become frustrated and angry when he is referred to as that. He tells me that he is Phonecian and that the only reason that people consider all Middle Eastern people Arabs, is because the Arabs invaded their countries and it is the official language of the Middle East. I just want to know why people even started to call all Middle Eastern people Arabs, when they are far from it and become really upset when referred to as that?
