My husband and I have been together five years, and last year we started having anal sex. I didn’t like it at first, but now I really do. It feels intimate to me, moreso than vaginal sex. It also seems like we are doing something forbidden, and I think that makes it seem more exciting. I guess I am wondering if I am a total freak, and is what we are doing really a sin? Even though my husband asked to do it originally, when we finally did it, he felt guilty for a while, I think. Now I think he likes it too. We don’t do it all the time, just a few times a month. The rest of the time we have vaginal sex. How common do you think it is for a straight couple to do this?

One: are you normal? Two: are you sinning? I don’t consider non-procreative sex (which anal sex obviously is) a sin against nature, God or your husband. If someone is being coercive or bringing about physical or mental pain, then that is wrong. As to whether this is statistically normal behavior for heterosexual couples, I have no idea. If it’s beneficial to your relationship, and if your health is not suffering, then you are just fine. Keep loving each other!
