I’m a Research Assistant to a professor who serves on an equal opportunity committee. Based on the sociological concept of ‘white allies’ (white people that ACTIVELY pursue equality for people of color- like stating that a particular joke is offensive or political activism), we are trying to compile a list of guidelines that professors can actively follow in the classroom to make students of color more comfortable as well as initiate meaningful discussion among all the races about racial issues. Any suggestions and/or personal experiences that deal with this out there?
