Michael M.ParticipantWhy do some people drink until they are hospitalized? Don’t they realize getting your stomach pumped is not fun?

mike19626ParticipantIthink a person can drink so much alcohol that he or she stops tasting the alcohol and forgets how much they’ve drank,so he or she keeps on drinking, not knowing that what they’re doing is really hazardous and could result in a stomach pumping.

PGParticipantI dont think people have the intention of drinking until they need to be hospitalized. For most, especially in a college atmosphere, it is a right of passage. Kids think it is what is expected. Also, there can be alot of anxiety to be at a party meeting new people. Alcohol eases the initial tension, and sometimes people go too far.

Ann L. LowensteinParticipantWhat on earth could possibly lead you to believe they think that far in advance, or that logically? The kind of folks who binge drink are not the kind of folks who are capable of understanding the concept of ‘consequences.’

CherylMMemberAlcoholism is a disease, not a choice. When people finally realize that, we may be able to treat it properly.
