Could anyone tell me the difference between Africans and Afro-Americans,but for the place they live? I live in Japan, and here most of the people take them as same as foreigners, but those who can speak english or who have stayed in foreign countries, take them as different. From what they say, I can conclude that people tend to prefer Afro-American than Africans. like, one of my friend has an Afro-american boyfriend(he comes from LA),and whenever she is asked her boyfriend’s nationality, she always say ‘he is Afro-AMERICAN( with a stress on American).’ but for me the difference is just pronauntiation of English they speak. does this thing only happen in Japan? or could anyone give me a reason?
