AmyParticipantI work in a call center and deal with numbers of callers each day. I have noticed that when helping African American (usually women) callers and I am friendly/helpful with a difficult situation and they are greatful they will address me as ‘Miss Amy’. In the context of ‘Thank you so much Miss Amy’ or ‘Well Miss Amy you have been very helpful’. An African American woman addresses me the same way at work and we get along very well. I often help her with work she is a bit older and has a hard time w/the computer. I never really got the nearve to ask her why she calls me Miss Amy. I know it’s not negative b/c it is in positive situations and I don’t mind it. BUT I was wondering if there is some cultural meaning behind this or if I am just reading way too much into it. Thanks
