As a black female, I don’t want to be insensitive to our plight as a race, but, I cannot STAND this label. I don’t know where it came from and who thought it up. To me, African-American is the same as saying Asian-American. Both words are used to describe someone who immigrated here and became citizens. I don’t know about anybody else but I was born in America, Dallas to be exact. I work my butt off every day and I vote religiously. I will not have my citizenship hyphenated. I have never seen Africa (though I would love to). I am extremely proud to be patriotic black in America but I am an AMERICAN; I pay taxes for a reason. So, am I alone?
