In Australia there is currently some debate on whether we should, as a nation, formally apologise to the Aboriginal community for events that happened 200 years past. There is an argument that if the government does apologise, it would leave itself open to compensation claims of some sort. I do not agree with this view. I wonder if this situation has arisen in other countries, and if so, what has happened in relation to it?
