As a white person, I think the book title about the ‘wet dog’ smell is a real eye-opener. I know I smell like old bacon if I don’t take a shower all day, so I am not offended to learn that I have a particular odor when I get wet. However, it is very surprising. What really startled me was that all this time I have been running around smelling like a wet dog, and nobody ever bothered to tell me about it. That teaches me a lot about the state of race relations in the United States. It’s what prompted me to take a look at this web site. There are a lot of things about black culture that bother me, but this is the first time it occurred to me that I might be bothering somebody else as well (for a reason that is really true).
