i dont feel that this practice is gross at all as long as the person doing it has the intention to remove it once it has been transferred to a more apropriate place. in fact i think that this is a practical thing to do because when one is in a hurry, they might very well forget writing on something as insignificant as a matchbook and/ or napkin. the practice of writing on your hand simply insures that the person wont be able to quickly forget or lose what it was they wote.
