It must depend on the state. Here in Texas, we call the areas North, South, East and West, not Northern, Southern, etc. I live in Northeast Texas. El Paso is in West Texas. I’ve heard national television reporters say, ‘Western Texas’ and I’m like, ‘Where’s that?’
