I too find that practice offensive. I’m not a smoker, but I imagine that people who litter their cig butts think it’s cool (‘Yeah, I’m a big REBEL!’) or, because of the small size of the butt, they think it is insigificant, ignoring that fact that one study showed that 75% of highway litter is tobacco related. Perhaps they can’t see the logic that, since they would never think of littering the floors of their homes with the disgusting remnants of their drug addiction, they should give the rest of the world the same consideration. Perhaps like any drug addicts, smokers are unable to view issues dealing with their addiction rationally. Yet everywhere they go, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, these inconsiderat slobs make the world a little more tawdry, a little seedier, a little filthier. And that, unfortunately, is often the extent of their legacy.
