I knew someone who was Japanese and dating a black woman. His parents were liberal. However, Japan is a First World nation, and this economic status influences its societal norms. Many modern and trendy Japanese are obsessed with Hip-Hop fashion and are moving into Harlem. However, sometimes the reason for Asian men not dating black women is that Asian mothers expect their sons to keep the family name and marry an Asian. Asian men are strictly expected to uphold family traditions. In Chinese society, the son must support the parents, and mixing of the races does not hold over well in countries with unstable governments such as Indonesia, Taiwan, the Philippines or various other homelands where the sons are expected to return to and visit family. In these countries, any minority, even if he/she is from another Asian country, is attacked, their homes and business looted or destroyed. It has happened to my friend’s family, who changed their names to appear native. Imperialism from other nations has caused residual racism among many of the poorer countries. Usually parents are not as strict with their daughters, as males are favored in most Asian societies.
