Never having been to New York, I can’t verify why the neighborhoods would be segregated, although it does sound like it is self-imposed. My friend is a very devout Jew from Brooklyn, and this being my only experience with New York Jews, I can say he has absolutely no problem with those of African descent. What you see might be some sort of cultural miscommunication. I’m not sure.
