Why is American culture full of racism? Simple. The white settlers who came over here. Europeans need to conquer the world and their belief in their own superiority. The white man’s burden to ‘civilize’ other cultures while stealing their land, subjugating the people and obliterating the race/culture/religion. And the results of this carry to this day. It is naive to believe that racism should no longer exist after 30 years of Civil Rights. Racism is institutionalized in this country to the point that it has created rifts between all races, but is still most poignant for Native Americans, who now make up a whopping 1 percent of the population of their native land, and blacks. There is division between blacks and Asians because an Asian man can get a loan to open a store in a black neighborhood before a black man can. Hispanics are stereotyped all the time. Then there’s the white man, who struggles to make it like anyone else, who’s tired of taking the blame for slavery and racism. But the white man will continue to be blamed as long as white men are running the country, controlling the media, limiting opportunities for others to succeed and continuing to reap the benefits of racism. Racism will continue to exist until black folks stop looking for white people to accept them and give them opportunities, and start to accept and respect themselves, support each other and create their own opportunities.
