Because most parents have no respect for their children. They have weak relationships with their kids, whom they have treated more like pets than people. They refuse to acknowledge their teen is basically an adult or they fail to empathize with their teen. Teens need to feel like their parents understand them and are listening, even if their parents disagree. Respect is earned. Also, kids at that age are starting to see their parent's faults much more clearly than they have ever seen them before. They are thinking like adults, not children, and they can see the flaws they couldn't at a younger age.

Honestly, I think it's kind of sexy. A girl can relate to wanting to look as beautiful as you can, and it's nice to know some guys care about their appearance. I see no reason why cosmetics should be considered "female only". Most people probably don't realize it, but men on TV (news anchors in particular) wear makeup. Men have been wearing cosmetics for some time.

I'm betting your issues are related to black culture, not your physical appearance. Do you have interests or values that differ from main stream black culture? No matter what your physical appearance, feeling like you don't fit into your own culture is really annoying. When you have different ideas and tastes you get a lot of pressure to conform and people make very hurtful comments about what you ought to be doing or liking. I find it interesting that no blacks here have addressed the concept of "oreos" (someone who is black on the outside but has white cultural values). It's a hurtful, cruel way of trying to hamstring blacks into rejecting white culture. I also don't think there's anything wrong with you for feeling alienated by the culture you were born within. Culture is a series of choices; make your own and to heck with the norms. I remember longing to be Asian in my younger years. I admired many aspects of their culture and could identify more strongly with certain aspects of it than my own. Even today, I feel more European than American in my cultural preferences. Over all the idea of "race" is outdated colonial period crap. There are no races. What we call races are actually cultures. In the old days people could look at someone and say, "Oh, he's black so he must act like this." or "He's white so he must like this." and make guesses as to your preferences. That's not true anymore. Every US American is SO mixed ethnically that the entire concept is total bunk now.

Well, whites with dark hair (brown or black) do. I don't know about red heads. Blondes have darker pubic hair than the hair on their heads, but not necessarily as dark as those with brown or black hair from what I've heard.

Well, folks in the US are Americans. If I went to Europe, I would call myself an American. If I went to Mexico I would call myself a US citizen. If I went to a state that was not my own I would call myself a Georgian. If I went to Europe and someone asked me where I lived, I wouldn't tell them the name of my town. That would be meaningless to them. I agree the media uses America pretty indiscriminatingly to mean US citizens. Also, US citizen is longer to say than American and sounds more ridiculous.

First of all, most of what you're describing is not related to Southern Culture at all. It seems to be related to where you're working and your occupation. The first thing you should do is read up on Southern culture just as you should if you were going to another country for awhile. Southerns are generally polite but not necessarily nice. They also hide behind a public face and can appear outwardly charming, while hating your guts.

Because most parents in the US don't like their kids. We've all heard parents say, "I can't wait till summer is over and the kids go back to school!" The idea of having lots of kids is often viewed as something of a nightmare to US parents. Four kids alone is a huge number in the US. Part of this is due to economic thoughts: the fewer kids you have the higher your standard of living can be, because kids are EXPENSIVE! Personally, I find those few rare US folks who have more than four are either very special people who love children and make fantastic parents, or they are the lazy poor people who can't support the kids they already have popped out. Some of the most special people I have known are people who had large families and were committed to raising their children.

I'm betting a lot upper class folks also don't pay the full retail price for this stuff either. They wait for sales and clearance. Just because some folks have have money doesn't mean they blow it.
