It's interesting that you point out all the things that white people want that black people have. For the record, wheel rims, dvd players, baseball hats, baggy pants, t-shirts, gold teeth, muscle cars, stereo systems and the NBA are by and large white inventions and it seems to me that a lot of black people value these things. I think you'll also find that there is a lot of skin lightening and hair straightening going on in the black community. BTW what 'language' are white people imitating? Swahili? Hausa? I was unaware that ebonics was an officially recognized language. I thought it was just a dialect for uneducated urban people -- black, white or otherwise. And for the record, most white people think Eminem is a joke. Now the Beastie Boys on the other hand.... ;)

I think this whole issue is a self perpetuating problem that I personally find very irritating. I know that the vast majority of black people are decent, law-abiding folks just like I know the vast majority of muslims are not terrorists. Here's the problem... we live in a society where MTV and the popular media tell us (and a lot of black kids) that it's cool to be a criminal and kill people as long as you write a song about it. Feel free to laugh and call me old and say 'sure, sure, blame it on the rap music'. But take a walk through the mall this weekend and checkout the high school kids. THEY WANT TO BE INTIMIDATING!! That's why they walk with a limp, dress like 50-Cent, hold their hands over their crotches (to make you think they're packing heat) and adopt the patented gangsta stare. We live in a society that increasingly glorifies and rewards criminal behaviour. It's sad because most of these kids have no criminal intent and are doing it just to be cool. Unfortunately, by going out of their way to look like criminals they generate concern that they are. Someone else posted a comment detailing all the various things white people had done to his friends and family and that it in no way affected his opinion of white people at large. I wonder if that person walked through the mall and saw a bunch of white people dressed in white hoods and sheets if he would be equally comfortable, even if these people were only dressing this way for 'cultural reasons'. My point being that I'm sure the original poster is not intimated by blacks wearing business suits or dressed like J Crew poster boys for that matter. My sense is that he is far more intimidated by those who activily try to be intimidating.

I think this notion that whites are threatened by educated blacks is absurd. Sure, there are a lot of diehard racists out there who are going to be threatened by you regardless but I think you'll find the vast majority of whites would be a lot happier if the vast majority of blacks were educated. Honestly, if 'too many blacks are educated' was the prevailing issue in our society, imagine what a wonderful country this would be. On the contrary I think what threatens a lot more of us white folks is the tendency for so many black youths to adopt counter culture, to glorify the gangsta rapper lifestyle, to hold their hands over their crotches to protect an invisible gun, to walk with fake limps and glower menancingly in a deliberate attempt to be intimidating. And then... to turn around and scoff at the fact that whites are intimidated and prejudiced against them. Anyhow, to get back on topic, saying whites are threatened by your education and success is just another subtle excuse to avoid education and success or worse, sabotage yourself once you get either of these things. I imagine if you have the notion that your white co-workers are threatened by you, you pretty much wear this belief on your face and it shows in your attitude and before you know it you have what us college educated folks like to call a 'self-fulfilling prophecy'. Maybe your white co-workers aren't threatened by you at all. Maybe they're just bored of your attitutde and don't like you. On a personal note, I work and associate with a lot of educated blacks whom I do not find threatening in any way whatsoever. One of my best friends is educated and black although I tease him that he is 'whiter than I am' thanks to his inability to dance, play sports or endure rap music. My neighbor is an educated black man and a far more enjoyable conversationalist than the redneck old white guy who used to be. In fact, I find educated blacks to be quite a breath of fresh air as they relieve my bigoted, racist, white fear that one day I will be living in a world of Snoop Doggs and forced to speak ebonics.
