    I agree with the woman who said the side effects creep up on you. I was on the pill for about three years and felt fine -- no weight gain, shorter and more regular periods, no cramps. Then I started getting repeated vaginal infections and a chronic soreness on the outside of my vagina, a condition called 'vulvodynia.' I was on antibiotics on and off for over a year, tried all sorts of steroid creams, and even had a vulvar biopsy. No doctor thought to suggest I go off the pill. When I did, all the soreness left within a week or two, and I have not had a vaginal infection since. So pay attention to your body! The pill can be great, but it isn't as perfect as some doctors would lead you to believe.
