Born-again Christians can be such a pain, but please note that the waging of holy war is one of the five Pillars of Islam. At least they don't beat around the bush. No one knows the will of God, and that's what's scary. That's why we could all be more tolerant of each other, because no matter how much we think we know we're right, we may in fact be on the completely wrong road. (The book of Job comes to mind.) They may be born again, but if they say stuff like that to your face, they're just bad-mannered, religion aside.

I don't know about rap because I don't listen to it. I guess because I'm an optimist I would say rock can be a very positive force. But I say this only about the music I listen to. There is music with negative messages out there, but I usually don't listen to it because it doesn't appeal to me. Why should I listen to music that depresses me? I listen to music to relax and be inspired and forget about my problems. I guess you could say it's like a drug, but anyway, I think music is what you make it and how you take it. It upsets me to see rock music get such a bad name from the few so-called artists who choose to use it for negative purposes. Of course, even seemingly negative messages can be good. It depends on whether you take them for the truth, or you look at them from a distance, as in a message telling us how screwed-up the world is.

The overwhelming majority of people in America are Christian, so pretty much we Christians get to decide the laws, because we outnumber everyone else. It's not fair to the individual, but it's a lot fairer than living in a country where everyone does what the king says. It's in Christian nature to want to save you, anyway, even when you're hopelessly lost on the path to Hell. Those Jehovah's Witnesses are infamous for their door-to-door teaching, but you have to admire them for their determination and faith. Another thing: I'm not sure what the Bible says, but I think it would be very shallow of God to not admit you into heaven simply because you are not Christian. God exists in many religions, not just Christianity. However, maybe in the Christian heaven, there are only Christians? Hmmm... Segregation in the afterlife??

It makes no sense to me to isolate a child from the opposite sex. How can someone grow up to be normal if they don't get a chance to be like everyone else? If I was the daughter, I would want to get out of a home like that asap. Please tell your husband know how unreasonable this is. On a more blunt note, what is wrong with liking a guy/girl and wanting to be with them? Because this is what it comes down to. And no, she is not too young. When I was 5 I liked a 50-year-old guy 'cause he was funny and had a nice smile, and I was too young to know it was silly. You can't set rules like that for your kid and still say you're a responsible parent. My philosophy: It's a parent's duty to worry about their child, give them wings and worry about them falling. It's the sacrifice a parent must make to show their kid they love them. It's much too easy to just say to your kid, 'You can't do this.' What you're not telling them is, 'I don't have the time to worry about you, so please don't have a life of your own.' But it doesn't work like that. You have to let go, and you have to worry. I hope I remember this when I am a parent.

I think that the double standards have a lot to do with the fact that women have been throughout history, and up until the 20th century, considered to be in a class second to men. At least that's what history says. It might be that now it's considered shallow and unenlightened for men to prefer something beautiful over something ugly, because the feminist movement wants to put women in a light where they are admired more for their inner qualities than their outer beauty, as a way of making up for all those centuries since the beginning of time when men were not afraid to take advantage of the fact that they are the stronger sex (physically). This is not to put down feminism, I think it was very much needed, but like all radical movements sometimes it tends to the extremes, as a way of making sure it's heard. But honestly, women have always naturally liked tall, rich, hot-looking guys, and guys have always liked beautiful girls, so I don't see what the big deal is. I think society is just trying to repress a truth it's not yet ready to handle. It's not good news to hear, but women are still not viewed on par with men, and they are not given the same regard as men in today's society. If women ever do receive, not equality, but respect for who we really are as people, then I think the double standard will disappear. But it's hard because people and society are so screwed up.

Think of it this way. The only reason you believe in God is cause someone told you he exists. Now its up to you to see if he really exists. Devout believers would naturally say that it's a sin to doubt. It's a sin to them. But is it to you? Is it to God? Does it say so in the Bible? The basis of Christianity is the Bible, a book which religious experts have been reinterpreting and editing for centuries. There's a Catholic version and a King James version so then where IS the holy and true word? Christianity is a good way to God, but it's not perfect, because it isn't God, it's only a religion. In my opinion, you don't have to be Christian to believe in God or even in Jesus. Some people go to mass every Sunday, take communion, do the whole church thing, but don't follow the teachings. It's all a facade they put on to fit in. I would recommed a movie for you to watch. Stigmata. Go rent it.
