Raloxifene 60 mg tablet is a medication primarily used to prevent and treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It belongs to a class of drugs called selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), which act like estrogen in some parts of the body while blocking its effects in others. This unique mechanism of action allows raloxifene to help maintain bone density and reduce the risk of fractures associated with osteoporosis. In addition to its bone-protective effects, raloxifene is also prescribed to reduce the risk of invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis or at high risk of breast cancer. It does this by blocking estrogen receptors in breast tissue, thereby inhibiting the growth of estrogen-sensitive tumors. Furthermore, raloxifene may have benefits for cardiovascular health, as studies suggest it may help lower LDL cholesterol levels. However, its use for this purpose is not as well-established as its use for osteoporosis and breast cancer risk reduction. As with any medication, it's essential to use raloxifene under medical supervision and follow the prescribed dosage and recommendations.
