Alicia31390ParticipantWhat is meant by 'lower class,' 'lower middle class,' 'middle class,' 'upper middle class,' and/or 'upper class?' Is one's designation reflected by income alone or income in combination with something(s) else like education, profession, race, pedigree (for lack of a better term) etc. I'm not looking for the Webster's definition but rather am interested in how people perceive themselves and others and what factors influence their perceptions.User Detail :

ShirleyAveryParticipantGreat question! Most people regard lower, middle and upper class in terms of income. However, education and professional status may not correlate to income levels. I suggested that YForum add EDUCATION as a separate category. I am an Honors college grad, but very low income due to a long history of depression. There are others, e.g., teachers & social workers, who may have graduate education, but are relatively low income. Great question! Just CuriousUser Detail :
