What is meant by 'lower class,' 'lower middle class,' 'middle class,' 'upper middle class,' and/or 'upper class?' Is one's designation reflected by income alone or income in combination with something(s) else like education, profession, race, pedigree (for lack of a better term) etc. I'm not looking for the Webster's definition but rather am interested in how people perceive themselves and others and what factors influence their perceptions.

Great question! Most people regard lower, middle and upper class in terms of income. However, education and professional status may not correlate to income levels. I suggested that YForum add EDUCATION as a separate category. I am an Honors college grad, but very low income due to a long history of depression. There are others, e.g., teachers & social workers, who may have graduate education, but are relatively low income. Great question! Just Curious
