To smokers: Why does it seem that so many of you have no problem littering streets, parking lots, sidewalks and most anywhere with discarded cigarette butts? Do you not consider it littering, or do you just not care? How is it different than throwing, say, gum wrappers out everywhere?

As a smoker for 25 years who quit in 1986, I can remember when many if not most smokers (myself included) would carelessly toss cigarette butts on the sidewalk or out of car windows. Anyone still smoking in this day and age is highly addicted and is simply stuck in that old consciousness. I agree with you that it's infuriating and hard to tolerate.
